What do to once you decide to TTC?

 Hi Ladies-
I'm about 16 months out from VSG and we are thinking about TTC. I had all my labs done at 12 months and everything was good. I'm just curious what you all did to prepare-

Like do I need an OK from the ob/gyn (my surgeon said ok back at 12 mo)? More blood work? Meet with a dietician?? Extra vitamins?

Thanks so much for any advice.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being pretty scared about gaining my weight back! :(

#1 Start taking folic acid if you're not already. There are so many links to birth defects and low amounts of folic acid. Having it in your system 3 months prior is optimum. Start taking a prenatal.

#2 Start weaning your body from all the negative things we put it through- for me it was headache medicine and caffeine. I figured that if I wasn't going to put it in a baby bottle then I wasn't going to put it in my mouth. I went through some major caffeine withdrawals too.... ouch. The same goes for behaviors...whatever you are doing now will carry with you for the 40 weeks. Starting to become an exercise guru when you are already pregnant isn't a good plan. It can be done of coarse but carefully. If you want to exercise while you are pregnant then get into the routine now. Wear your seatbelt, be gentle with yourself....  whatever you do now will follow you.

#3 remove the stresses from your life as much as possible. I know this is a crazy thing to try. If there's something you're avoiding or delaying then get it done now: ie buying a new house, a new car, telling your mother-in-law off, etc etc. (J/k about the MIL btw)

I'm older so I saw a reproductive endocrinologist just to double check that everything was good. He did a test to check for Cystic Fibrosis. My husband and myself are both caucasian. Caucasians have a 25% chance of being carriers. When BOTH parents are carriers then the baby has a 50% chance of contracting the disease. It's a blood test. My insurance paid for it.

RELAX! I truly believe that it is easier to get pregnant if you are more relaxed about the whole thing. It makes the pregnancy easier too.

I am very analytical so for me I had to chart everything and be on top of all my cycles and such. I subscribed to Fertility Friend. It really helped me understand my body and in doing so made me much more relaxed about everything. We conceived the first month (first try actually) so there's something to be said for it.

Good luck!!!

Thank you so much Tracey!!

I spoke with my NUT today who said she'd be happy to meet with me to work on a plan for pregnancy.

I appreciate the feedback!!
